Elon Musk Just Announced His Latest Project And Everyone Is Pointing Out The Same Thing
Elon Musk has come up with a lot of crazy ideas in his time, and then actually followed through with them a few months, or even years, later.
He tweeted that he was creating a flamethrower, and then boom, he creates the Tesla flamethrower. He announces he's going fire a car into space towards Mars. Boom, a few years down the line we have Starman, the most bizarre use of a rocket we've ever seen.
The hyperloop he announced is also already being tested. He is one of those billionaires with crazy ideas who actually gets stuff done.
So when he announces a new crazy plan, we're not that keen on dismissing it as just a wild idea that'll never come to fruition. Which makes his latest tweet pretty freaking exciting.
Yes, Elon Musk is working on building a cyborg dragon by the way.
We know what you're thinking:
And Elon agrees.
Now, technically a cyborg contains both organic and mechanic body parts, so in order for it to be a "cyborg dragon," it would have to involve some sort of organic component to it, which several people have noticed.
We're guessing that this won't be the case, given that cyborg technology isn't yet at the stage where we're making human-robot hybrids, so there probably won't be a full-blown dragon robot with the mind of Elon Musk running around.
Nevertheless, it could have some sort of human brain interface, if he really is creating a "cyborg" as he claims. Last year Musk began a company called Neuralink, with the goal of improving the human mind. The company is creating a "neural lace" they claim will make human beings "achieve symbiosis with machines".
The device aims to be a computer interface woven into the human brain, which could be used to make the human mind directly communicate with the Internet or with others wearing the same device.
So to speculate wildly, the badass robot dragon he's creating could utilize this interface, in order for him to be able to call it a "cyborg". Alternatively, he's kidding (booo) or he just mistweeted and he's really just making a normal, run of the mill, robot dragon.
We won't know until he emerges from his factory riding it like Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones.

Kendrick Lamar wins Pulitzer prize as Weinstein reporting also honoured
New York Times and New Yorker share public service prize as rapper becomes first non-classical or jazz musician to win award

The most famous names of American journalism were honoured on Monday with Pulitzer prizes for investigating Donald Trump and exposing endemic sexual harassment in Hollywood.
And in a dramatic cultural breakthough, 30-year-old rapper Kendrick Lamar won a Pulitzer for music in a category long reserved for classical works.
The New York Times and New Yorker were jointly awarded the Pulitzer prize for public service on Monday for investigating accusations of sexual harassment and assault made against one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein.
Reports on the allegations, which Weinstein has denied, led to a cascade of accusations and admissions of sexual misconduct in Hollywood, Silicon Valley, politics and beyond as the #MeToo movement made 2017 a year of reckoning for powerful men.
The Times also shared the national reporting Pulitzer with rival the Washington Post, in recognition of each newspapers dedicated coverage of Robert Muellers investigation into Russias role in the 2016 presidential election.
But in a year when the media has been galvanised by digging into Trumps chaotic presidency, Lamars award for his album Damn also stood out as the rapper from Compton, California became the first rap artist to win a Pulitzer in music. It is the first piece of popular music to receive the music award since it was introduced in 1943.
The music award was the last to be announced at the Pulitzer prize ceremony on Monday afternoon at Columbia University in New York City. Pulitzer administrator Dana Canedy, the first woman and person of color to announce the award, smiled while reading Lamars name.
Before announcing the journalism winners, Canedy explained why these works were selected: Their work is real news of the highest order, executed nobly as journalism was always intended, without fear or favor.
Her reference to real news was a subtle rebuke to Donald Trumps constant badgering of journalists, which has helped make the phrase fake news part of the cultural lexicon.
The two national newspapers to take home the most awards, the New York Times and the Washington Post, have been subjected to repeated attacks by the president. Trump has called for the Post to be registered as a lobbying group and frequently complains about reporting done by the failing New York Times.
The New York Times, however, won the most Pulitzer prizes with three awards. Its final award was in the editorial cartooning for a series profiling a real-life family of refugees in the US.
The Times rival, the Washington Post, secured two awards.
The second was the investigative reporting prize, handed down for the newspapers examination of the Republican nominee for the Alabamas special Senate election, Roy Moore. He lost the race after six women said Moore pursued them when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s. He denied dating anyone underage and that he had sexually assaulted anyone.
Marty Baron, executive editor at the Washington Post, said in a statement: In the end, the work of these Post journalists stands as a case study in why we need a free and independent press in this country.
The allegations made against Moore also helped drive the commentary award, which was given to John Archibald, an Alabama Media Group writer and longtime Birmingham News columnist, for his writing on state politics.
He was one of several regional journalists and newspapers to be awarded a Pulitzer.
The Press Democrat, in Santa Rosa, California, earned the breaking news award for its coverage of the wildfires that devastated the state last year.
The Arizona Republic, with the USA Today Network, was awarded the explanatory journalism award for a series on the border wall between the US and Mexico.
And the Cincinnati Enquirer took home the local reporting award for a package on how the region has been affected by the opioid addiction crisis.
Andie Dominick, of the Des Moines Register, received the editorial writing prize for examining in a clear, indignant voice, free of clich or sentimentality the consequences of Iowa healthcare laws.
Photographer Ryan Kelly, of the Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Virginia, won the breaking news photography award for capturing the moment a car struck demonstrators during a clash between white supremacists and their opponents.
Persistent racism in the US also marked the feature writing award, which went to Rachel Kaadzi Ghansah, for her reporting on Dylann Roof, who killed nine black people at a church in South Carolina, for GQ magazine in the piece A Most American Terrorist.
The international reporting prize went to Reuters for its coverage of the Philippines president Rodrigo Dutertes drug war, which has seen thousands killed. The wire reporting service also won the feature photography award for following the plight of Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar.
And the New York magazine art critic Jerry Saltz won the criticism prize.
Along with Lamars Damn, the other winners outside of the journalism categories were Andrew Sean Greers Less, for fiction; Cost of Living, for drama; The Gulf: The Making of An American Sea for US history and Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder, for biography.
Poet Frank Bidart won the award for his collection Half-Light and the nonfiction award went to James Forman Jr for Locking Up Our Own: Crime and Punishment in Black America.

Abstinence education is meant to keep kids safe. But it could actually put them in danger.

#MeToo. I think.
I imagine a watchful Jesus hanging out in the backseat drinking a Coke like my pastor says he does. But when I let them put their hand on my thigh, I see Jesus leave the car and walk away.
Now we’re kissing, and I’m having second thoughts. I don’t really like their hand in my pants, but I’ve never been taught what I’m supposed to “like” or “dislike.”
I say “sure, let’s go to your house to hang out,” so I think that I pretty much consented to sex. Because, as a temptress, it's my job to stop them by saying “I’m saving myself for marriage.”
Even though I wish I could back out, I stay. It’s not #MeToo because that’s for people who didn’t consent to things, right?
In the wake of all the #MeToo stories, it struck me how many of them featured language such as, “They already bought me dinner, so I felt obligated to do something. I don’t know why.”
I instinctually knew why because I had similar thoughts as a pastor’s daughter who was taught to abstain from sex. I knew these victims never had a proper consent conversation because there isn’t any place for it where abstinence is taught. My parents thought that talking about consent would negate their teachings about abstinence, so I never learned how powerful saying "yes" and "no" could be.
The reality is that teens are having sex, and teaching abstinence-only sexual education has dangerous ramifications.
We need to move past telling teens to “picture Jesus in the backseat drinking a Coke” if they are considering becoming intimate. The shame created by scenarios like this leaves Christian teens vulnerable in murky situations. While I never experienced some of the horrific scenarios mentioned in many of the #metoo stories, I nevertheless always felt like it was my fault for putting myself in sexual situations. I felt obligated to do “something” that would satisfy the guy, so he wouldn’t be upset at me for leading him on. I felt shame.
I learned that my body was not my own — but God's.
Therefore, consent would naturally lie within his control. These are not the thoughts of someone who has been taught a healthy view of their sexuality.
My sexual education consisted of my mother and father calling my brother and I into their bedroom and telling us they wanted to answer any questions we might have. After the term “boner” was awkwardly discussed, it was clear the conversation was over. I later received a book that vaguely described a "tingly feeling."
This lack of sexual education is the root of the problem. According to Sharon Hollings, who was raised evangelical, it was "just assumed that I wouldn’t be having sex. Meaning I didn’t have any advice or insight on how to handle things when I did.”
I was never taught that my feelings were paramount.
I was never taught that it was important to know what you like and dislike.
The magic of sex was that when you consented to your partner on your wedding night, you would like EVERYTHING.
Spoiler alert: You don’t.
The lack of a proper conversation about my body as my own became glaringly obvious when my parents explained that masturbation was a sin, that even thinking about having sex with someone meant you had already done it in your heart. Boy, was I a heart slut for Patrick Swayze. Throughout my adolescent self-exploration, I constantly apologized to God and felt guilt about my sexuality.
This lack of a discussion of bodily autonomy and shaming for self-exploration leads to a whole different problem.
Growing up in Christian schools, there was a running joke that you could do everything but sex. This was not something officially taught, but it was an unofficial practice among students. According to Cindy Rogers, who was raised Catholic, “I went to school with some super religious folks. They would have anal sex and still call themselves virgins.” Folk duo Garfunkel and Oates even have a song parody on the subject, “The Loophole.”
The denial of real teenage interactions leads to confusion about consent. It can lead to non-consensual sexual activity. We need a more realistic approach. The consent conversation is eliminated in abstinence teaching because of the assumption that it might encourage sexual activity.
This becomes especially dangerous for marginalized LGBTQ teens.
They're told that they are not allowed to act on their sexual preferences — ever. This puts them in even greater danger for self-blame when faced with consent decisions. If those teaching would at least offer abstinence as one of many choices instead of the only option, that would allow teens to feel they have control over the decisions facing their bodies.
My friend, who was raised similarly to me, recently put things into perspective for how she approaches the topic with her children: “If you don’t give people a healthy view of sex without the guilt factor, people aren’t going to know how to protect themselves. You won't be able to listen to that little voice that says something about this isn’t right. You need the self-esteem and confidence to go, 'Yeah, nope, I’m out.'"
It’s urgent that we put young people’s sexual autonomy at the forefront of the conversation.
Emphasizing “your body, your choice” will allow them to thrive in adulthood.
We need to move into a realistic view of life, love, and sexuality. We need teens to understand that without consent, they are the victims of a crime. That they are #MeToo and not #MyFault.
I’m pretty sure that if Jesus was actually drinking a Coke in the backseat, he would agree. I’m also pretty sure He’s switched to La Croix at this point.
