Self-driving police patrol to hit Dubai

(CNN)Self-driving police vehicles are set to hit Dubai -- but don't expect to catch a ride in one. This autonomous police car is tiny.

OTSAW touts the O-R3 as the world's first ground-aerial outdoor security robot.

Functionally, the ground robot is not unlike units manufactured by Californian company Knightscope or the E-Patrol Robot Sheriff in China.

With a wheel base less than four by two feet, the sensor-heavy O-R3 is fitted with 360 degree HD cameras, thermal imaging, a laser scanner and Lidar (light detecting and ranging), utilizing SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology to navigate its surroundings, identifying objects up to 330 feet away.

Brigadier Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi of Dubai Police confirmed to CNN that the O-R3's surveillance tools will be used to identify faces, wanted vehicles and unattended objects. The robot will alert police officers in central command, with data also available via mobile apps.

At 275 lbs and with a top speed of 9.3 mph, the O-R3 ground vehicle can't chase down criminals. However it does have an ace in the hole. Or rather, in the trunk. The robot's deployable drone can reach 27.9 mph to track suspects -- and not even Usain Bolt can outrun that.

Other features according to OTSAW's website include perimeter breach detection and monitoring environmental factors including CO2 levels.

"It will be part of our smart police IoT ('Internet of Things') systems all integrated (with) each other," Brigadier Alrazooqi adds, saying that the force will start with one unit "and will increase the numbers after we ... take all the feedback from the police units."

Manufacturer OTSAW told CNN that Dubai Police have agreed in principal to acquire up to 100 units by 2020, leased at a cost of $10,000 per unit per month. OTSAW adds that it is currently in talks with "multiple government agencies from different countries" regarding the model.

The O-R3 is a pricey move and part of Dubai Police's drive towards making 25% of its force a robot by the year 2030.

For those disappointed by the scale of the O-R3, Dubai Police is still thinking big.

"We're planning later on to have robot (officers) in driverless cars," said the brigadier in a previous interview with CNN in April, adding that the police want to work with Tesla and other undisclosed companies.

So if your fantasy is to be pushed into the back of a sci-fi police car a-la "Logan's Run," "Timecop" and "Demolition Man," Dubai might one day be the place.

In the meantime, citizens and visitors will have to make do with the chirpy O-R3.

San Francisco to pay $190G to undocumented immigrant over sanctuary law violation, lawyer says

A man from El Salvador in the U.S. illegally who sued San Francisco after police turned him over to immigration authorities in violation of the city's sanctuary law is set to be awarded $190,000, his attorney said Thursday.

Pedro Figueroa-Zarceno, 33, reached the settlement agreement with the city attorney's office, said Saira Hussain, a staff attorney at the Asian Law Caucus who represented Zarceno. The agreement must be approved by the Board of Supervisors.

Its really important for San Francisco to remain a sanctuary city not in name only but also in practice, Hussain told The San Francisco Examiner. Our hope is that the department is going to look into this further and really examine the way that the department can do more."

Figueroa-Zarceno sued San Francisco in January for violating its sanctuary city law.

The construction worker said he went to police in December 2015 after getting a call from authorities that his stolen car had been found. Instead of helping him, he said, officers detained him and called immigration authorities.

He was taken into custody by federal authorities outside the police station and was in jail for two months. He has been fighting his deportation since his release.

"What happened to me was very unfair and it was an injustice," Figueroa-Zerceno said. "I went into the police station to seek help and they didn't tell me what was happening and they arrested me and treated me badly."

City law prohibits law enforcement officers from cooperating with federal immigration officials except when violent criminals are involved.

Part of the law's purpose was to encourage immigrants to report crimes they may be afraid of disclosing because of fear that investigating officers would turn them over to immigration authorities.

San Francisco's sanctuary law was thrust into the national debate on immigration after the July 2015 slaying of 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle.

The man charged with murder in Steinle's slaying, Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, had been released by San Francisco sheriff's officials months earlier despite a request by immigration officials to keep him behind bars.

House Republicans took action Thursday to crack down on illegal immigrants and the cities that shelter them.

One bill passed by the House would deny federal grants to sanctuary cities and another, Kates Law, would increase the penalties for deported aliens who try to return to the United States.

Venus Williams at fault in deadly Florida car crash, police say

Tennis star Venus Williams caused a car crash earlier this month that led to the death of a passenger in another vehicle, according to a police report released Thursday.

Palm Beach Gardens police say witnesses told investigators that Williams ran a red light in her 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV, causing a June 9 crash that injured 78-year-old Jerome Barson, who died two weeks later.

The report says a 2016 Hyundai Accent driven by Barson's wife, Linda, crashed into the side of Williams' SUV. Linda Barson told investigators that she was approaching the intersection when her light turned green and that she was unable to stop in time. Linda Barson suffered unspecified moderate injuries. Williams, who turned 37 on June 17, was not hurt.

She told investigators she had entered the six-lane intersection on a green light but had been forced to stop midpoint by traffic ahead of her. She said she did not see the Barsons' car when she crossed into their lanes.

Palm Beach Gardens Maj. Paul Rogers says the crash remains under investigation. Williams, who has a residence in Palm Beach Gardens, has not been cited or charged. The report says she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Williams' attorney Malcolm Cunningham said in a statement that Williams expressed "her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one."

Michael Steinger, the attorney for Linda Barson, had no immediate comment.

Venus Williams, the older sister of tennis star Serena Williams, has won seven Grand Slam titles, including five at her favorite tournament, Wimbledon.

She revealed in 2011 that she'd been diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome, an autoimmune disease.

Her ranking fell outside the top 100 as she coped with her illness and injuries, and from 2011 to 2014, she only advanced past the third round at a major once.

Early round losses continued to mount for Williams and questions about retirement came up time and again. Those questions are still asked, but she had a career renaissance, and in January reached the finals of the Australian Open, where she lost to her sister.

The crash was first reported by TMZ.

(CNN)The former Texas state trooper who pulled over and arrested Sandra Bland has turned in his law enforcement license in exchange for having a perjury charge against him dismissed.

Brian Encinia is no longer eligible to be hired as an officer and won't pursue employment in law enforcement under the terms of the agreement, according to court documents released Wednesday.

Encinia arrested Bland in July 2015 after a traffic stop. Authorities accused her of failing to use her turn signal.

Dashcam video shows the encounter Bland had with Encinia started as a normal conversation but grew tense after Encinia asked her to put out her cigarette. Bland was arrested after refusing to get out of her car.

Three days later, Bland was found hanging in her jail cell.

Authorities ruled Bland's death a suicide, but her family cast doubt, saying she would have never killed herself.

Bland's death sparked outrage from those who said she never should have been arrested. Protesters said her arrest after failing to use a turn signal showed bias and excessive use of force by police against African-Americans.

Bland's family is disappointed by the dismissal, their lawyer said.

"The special prosecutor assured the family they would see the matter to trial. The family relied on that. The prosecutor didn't even reach out to the family to notify them that they were looking to cut this deal," attorney Cannon D. Lambert said. "What was gained -- him never being an officer anymore, would have been gained by a conviction. They gave up a chance to seek justice and got nothing."

CNN affiliate KTRK in Houston obtained a statement from Encinia's lawyer.

"Brian and his family appreciate the thoughtful review by the prosecutors. Dismissal was the right thing to do." attorney Chip Lewis said.

CNN has also reached out to Lewis for comment.

Encinia was fired in March 2016. He had said he took Bland from the car she was driving so he could conduct a safer traffic investigation.

No one was charged in her jailhouse death.

In September, her family reached a $1.9 million settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit

Trump administration sets new visa rules for travel-ban countries, report says

The Trump administration on Wednesday set new criteria for visa applicants from six mainly Muslim nations and all refugees that require a "close" family or business tie to the United States.

The move came after the Supreme Court partially restored President Trump's executive order that was widely criticized as a ban on Muslims.

The new rules take effect at 8 p.m. EDT on Thursday.

Visas that have already been approved will not be revoked, but instructions issued by the State Department say that new applicants from Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Iran and Yemen must prove a relationship with a parent, spouse, child, adult son or daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law or sibling already in the U.S. to be eligible.

The same requirement, with some exceptions, holds for would-be refugees from all nations who are still awaiting approval for admission to the U.S.

Grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, fiancees or other extended family members are not considered to be close relationships, according to the guidelines that were issued in a cable sent to all U.S. embassies and was obtained by The Associated Press.

As far as business or professional links are concerned, the State Department said a legitimate relationship must be "formal, documented and formed in the ordinary course rather than for the purpose of evading" the ban.

Journalists, students, workers or lecturers who have valid invitations or employment contracts in the U.S. would be exempt from the ban. The exemption does not apply to those who seek a relationship with an American business or educational institution purely for the purpose of avoiding the rules, the cable said.  A hotel reservation or car rental contract, even if it was pre-paid, would also not count, it said.

Consular officers may grant other exemptions to applicants from the six nations if they have "previously established significant contacts with the United States;" `'significant business or professional obligations" in the U.S.; if they are an infant, adopted child or in need of urgent medical care; if they are traveling for business with a recognized international organization or the U.S. government or if they are a legal resident of Canada who applies for a visa in Canada, according to the cable.

Critics said they are watching closely to see how the guidelines are used.

"Initial reports suggest that the government may try to unilaterally expand the scope of the ban - for example, by arbitrarily refusing to treat certain categories of familial relationships as `bona fide.' These reports are deeply concerning. We are watching for official word," said Omar Jadwat, director of the ACLU's Immigrants' Rights.

On Monday, the Supreme Court partially lifted lower court injunctions against Trump's executive order that had temporarily banned visas for citizens of the six countries. The justices' ruling exempted applicants from the ban if they could prove a "bona fide relationship" with a U.S. person or entity, but the court offered only broad guidelines -- suggesting they would include a relative, job offer or invitation to lecture in the U.S.  -- as to how that should be defined.

Senior officials from the departments of State, Justice and Homeland Security had labored since the decision to clarify the ruling and Wednesday's instructions were the result. The new guidance will remain in place until the Supreme Court issues a final ruling on the matter. Arguments before the justices will not be held until at least October, so the interim rules will remain in place at least until the fall.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration approved a new questionnaire for U.S. visa applicants that asks for social media handles and accounts used during the last five years and travel history, including the source of funding for trips, over the last 15 years, for more rigorous vetting.

The State Department requested expedited consideration and emergency review from the Office of Management and Budget on May 5 for the new visa application protocol. Fox News can confirm that OMB has approved the new measures.

Under the new rules, would-be immigrants from the six countries who won a coveted visa in the government's diversity lottery -- a program that randomly awards 50,000 green cards annually to people from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States -- will also have to prove they have a "bona fide relationship" with in the U.S. or are eligible for another waiver or face being banned for at least 90 days. That hurdle may be a difficult one for those immigrants to overcome, as many visa lottery winners don't have relatives in the U.S. or jobs in advance of arriving in the country.

California police find toddler dead in backseat of SUV, couple detained

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. –  Authorities say they are investigating the death of a toddler found under some blankets in the back of an SUV parked the wrong way on a Northern California street.

Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Tony Turnbull says the child was found unresponsive Wednesday in the backseat by Rancho Cordova police officers and pronounced dead at the scene.

He says a man and a woman found near the car were detained for questioning.

Turnbull says the couple owns the car and that a records check revealed the man had an outstanding warrant out of Arkansas.

Turnbull says the child did not have obvious signs of trauma and that the Sacramento Coroner's office will determine a cause of death.

Police did not immediately release the names, ages or relationship of the child or the adults.

I think when I was younger I used to be a little more insecure because I had more muscles than, you know, the models, or you know the skinny girls you see on the street, she told ESPN. But at the same time I think I grew up to really love my body and the strength that I have.

Wozniacki added, I have a strong core, I have abs, I have a butt and I have thighs, because thats what I need to be able to run fast and sustain the power out there when I play against the other women.

FBI finds the car a missing Chinese grad student was seen entering

(CNN)The last known sighting of 26-year-old graduate student Yingying Zhang was on the afternoon of June 9.

Security camera footage released by the University of Illinois -- where Zhang was studying -- shows the visiting Chinese scholar getting into the passenger side of a black Saturn Astra hatchback.

On Tuesday the FBI announced it had found the Saturn. The whereabouts of Zhang, however, remain a mystery.

One of more than 300,000 Chinese students and scholars attending US universities, her disappearance has triggered widespread concern in China, with discussion of the case dominating both social and traditional media.

Authorities would not say where it was or to whom the vehicle belongs and few details have been released about the search since it began.

The FBI is treating the disappearance as a kidnapping, but the campus police, in a recently released update, say they are calling it a missing persons case.

"While we categorize this as a missing person case, the FBI may use different terminology to categorize its investigations, and kidnapping is one possibility of many that we are pursuing," a statement said. "At this point in the investigation, there is no way to confirm exactly what happened, and we are not ruling anything out."

Zhang had a year-long position at the university's department of nature resources and environmental sciences. She graduated from Beijing's prestigious Peking University last year with a master's degree in environmental engineering, according to a department webpage.

"She was about six weeks into her appointment as a scholar in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences when she disappeared," said University of Illinois spokeswoman Robin Kaler.

She talked to driver

University police said Zhang had just gotten off a public bus before the four-door hatchback approached her on the north end of the university campus.

Zhang can be seen standing by a tree as a black Saturn Astra pulls up next to her. She had a brief conversation with the driver before entering the vehicle.

The FBI says the vehicle appeared to be driven by a white male who circled the area before making contact with Zhang.

Zhang is 5-foot-4 and weighs 110 pounds, according to the FBI. She was last seen wearing a charcoal-colored baseball cap, a pink and white top, jeans and white tennis shoes. She carried a black backpack.

Her father arrives

Police have begged for patience from concerned students.

"We realize that this has been a source of anxiety for our entire campus community," campus Police Chief Jeff Christensen said in a message to the town. "Our concern for Yingying grows with each day that passes ... while we cannot share specific details on the investigation in order to maintain its integrity and direction, we continue to make progress in our search, and we will not give up until we find her."

Police say they are searching security camera footage, local hospitals, working with rideshare programs like Uber and Lyft, and checking other records.

Zhang's father, Zhang Ronggao, traveled from Nanping, China, to do what he could to help find his daughter, the Tribune reported.

The Chinese Students and Scholars Association plans to hold a walk and concert Thursday to show their concern for Zhang.

Concern in China

The number of Chinese students in the US has more than tripled since 2008 to 329,000 last year.

Urbana-Champaign is one of the most popular universities for Chinese students, with more than 5,600 students, who make up a sizable community both on campus and in the small town of 207,000.

According to Chinese state media, the school is favored for both its educational record and its safety -- with a bustling campus located around 150 miles south of Chicago in the agricultural center of Illinois.

Zhang's disappearance has attracted considerable attention back home, with groups set up on messaging app WeChat to share information about the case, which is also trending on Chinese social media.

A crowdfunding campaign set up "to assist the family of missing U of I scholar Yingying Zhang with expenses incurred as the search for her continues," has raised more than three times its $30,000 goal, with many donors leaving messages of support in Chinese.

Rewards offered for information

Zhang's family has teamed up with Champaign County Crime Stoppers to offer a $40,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in her disappearance.

"This is the largest award Crime Stoppers has ever granted since our inception," said Champaign County Crime Stoppers President John Hecker.

"We've been in the business, if you will, for more than 30 years. And I think that underscores the importance of how we are looking upon this particular case."

The FBI is also offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the location of the missing woman.

Adam Driver Brings A Family To Tears With Life-Changing Surprise

Well, so much for Kylo Ren learning to keep his emotions in check.

Just a warning: Tears may start flowing when you see Star Wars actor Adam Driverdeliver a surprise, life-changing scholarship to the daughter of a disabled veteran.

(Even Snoke would be reaching for a tissue.)

Driver teamed up with Budweiser and the Folds of Honor Foundation to make it happen. The actor, a former Marine, told HuffPost he jumped at the chance to get involved when he heard how the two organizations were helping military families.

This is nothing new for Budweiser, which has apparently helped fund around 2,200 scholarships over the past six years with Folds of Honor. However, actually seeing Driver driving to Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania, to surprise nursing student Haley Williams with the opportunity to better pursue her dreams is pretty special to watch. And the actor made sure he wasnt left out of the family hug.

Over email, Driver told HuffPost more about the experience, what it was like surprising the Williams family, and how he really just didnt want to hit anything while driving:

What was it like driving to the house? Howd you feel finally walking inside?

I was driving with a film crew in the car, so I was mostly focused on not running over a mailbox, but apart from that, getting out of the car I just felt lucky to be there. I was very touched by Hayley and her familys story and wanted to be of service to them. Getting a front row seat to them absorbing why I was in their kitchen and that Budweiser and Folds of Honor would be covering the remainder of her education is something I wont easily forget.

Your own story has a lot of similarities to that of the Williams family. What was that connection like when you met them? How has this experience affected you?

I found the Williams to be an incredibly close knit and loving family. I understood where Hayleys father John was coming from right away. John was injured right before being deployed. I was also injured right before deployment, so that sense of not finishing your job with the people you started with is something we connected on. Unfortunately, he is left with limited mobility and over the past 20 years he has received multiple back surgeries to try to help.

Despite his injuries he works incredibly hard as a bus driver to support his family. Hayleys father inspired her to become a nurse to help people just like him. So as I said I felt very fortunate to be there and to help Haley take the next step.

Theres definitely a moment where they are realizing who you are. Were you at all nervous about, Oh, these people might not know who I am?

Honestly, I didnt think about it too much. I was more excited than anything. Perseverance is a quality that cant be celebrated enough. Hayley and her family embody it. So again, I was lucky to meet them.

(Lastly, yes, we did ask one question about Star Wars.)

Youve said you think Episode VIII is remarkable. What do you think fans can expect?

I said what Rian had written was remarkable. He created new rules for the Star Wars universe and balanced the familiar and unfamiliar very adeptly while respecting that his audience can handle ambiguity. Which you can see in his previous films. Characters and story are his priority.

Facebook live video captures Boston drug overdose

(CNN)Two men in Boston tapped on a car window when they saw a man and woman passed out, a needle lying in the woman's lap.

The video, captioned "Drugs is a terrible thing... #BostonStrung Out!!", was taken on a street in Dorchester, Massachusetts on June 21. The incident occurred there just before 5:30 p.m., according to CNN affiliate WFXT.

The video has over 12 million views on Facebook.

After nearly a minute of banging on the driver's side window, the woman came to, startled and disoriented. The man, identified in the video as Dan, could not be shaken awake.

Dan would not regain any level of consciousness until his friend administered two doses of Narcan.

"I have Narcan in the trunk," the unidentified female says in the video.

A small crowd begins to flock to the car. The woman tells them her friend didn't often take drugs and that's why she was worried about him.

Wearing one shoe, she runs to his side of the car to administer Narcan and CPR.

Several minutes later Dan woke up, vomiting.

"Double strength, they're the new ones, the double strength, I gave him two, because I wasn't risking it," she says in the video as he continues to vomit.

"Narcan does work. I've been through this multiple times," she says.

Boston Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene to treat the man who overdosed, according to Boston police spokesman Officer Stephen McNulty. Boston police officers assisted at the scene but no incident report was filed, nor were the two individuals arrested. No narcotics were recovered at the scene, McNulty told CNN.

"While the video is troubling and disturbing, there is no criminal investigation into the incident at this time," McNulty said.

The Boston Public Health Commission would not provide any further details about the incident because it is considered protected health information, Boston Public Health Commission Media Relations Manager Ana Karina Vivas told CNN.

Koalas seem cute and cuddly on the surface, masking the fact that they're still wild animals.

Such as these two koalas who had a brawl in the middle of a highway in southwestern Victoria, Australia, who narrowly missed being hit by a truck.

Sharon Bercely told 9 News she was driving home when she saw the two marsupials fighting. While most people might drive on by, she stopped and got out of her car to help shoo the angry koalas off the road.

"Off the road you stupid animals," Bercely told the koalas in the video.

Had Bercely not intervened, a semi-trailer would've been on a collision course with the animals, but she was there in time to get the truck onto the highway's emergency lane.

"I've never seen them fight in the middle of the road before. They're so silly. They're so slow," she told the TV station.

Eventually the koalas were forced off the road, mustered into bushland with the help of a towel from her car. Such foolish things.

Apple's attempts to hide the development of secret new products by using shell companies usually works, but some clever sleuthing by one site has revealed what may be a key component of Apple's future with augmented reality.

Documents have been uncovered by MacRumors that indicate Apple has quietly acquired eye-tracking company SensoMotoric Instruments. In addition to tracking down acquisition documents linked to Apple attorney Gene Levoff, the site also spoke to an anonymous tipster in contact with an Apple employee who confirmed the acquisition.

The famously secretive company almost never comments on such acquisitions, but now that we have clear links between SensoMotoric and Apple, the next question is: What does this all mean?

A number of clues can be found in archived versions of the SensoMotoric site (which had some information removed recently). What immediately stands out is the fact that SensoMotoric touts its eye-tracking technology as a means to conduct ad testing (to see what draws a consumer's eye), "virtual reality marketing," and "neuromarketing." In the realm of virtual reality, SensoMotoric has worked in the past to develop custom eye-tracking solutions for the Oculus Rift DK2, the Samsung Gear VR, and the HTC Vive.

None of the leading VR headsets include eye-tracking as a standard feature yet, but the technology is viewed as the next big development in VR, right alongside inside-out tracking on tetherless headsets.

The most intriguing aspect of SensoMotoric relates to what it might do for Apple's rapid entry into AR

But Apple CEO Tim Cook has already gone on record regarding AR being the focus at Apple over VR. Therefore, the most intriguing aspect of SensoMotoric relates to what it might do for Apple's rapid entry into AR with tools like ARKit. Perhaps SensoMotoric's eye-tracking technology could be used to help users interact with and even manipulate AR environments and virtual objects.

One SensoMotoric video (above) shows a tennis player wearing a pair of specialized glasses that track where the player is looking in real time. Similarly, another image on the SensoMotoric site shows a user wearing similar glasses as she reads the information on the back of a cereal box (see top image). This connection to SensoMotoric and its eye-tracking could be what led to recent rumors around Apple possibly developing its own AR glasses.

And while "Apple Glasses" or "iGlasses" may become a reality in the future, in the near term, it seems far more likely that Apple will attempt to somehow use SensoMotoric's technology in concert with the iPhone and its ARKit-friendly platform. Also, giving brands a means to directly track user engagement in AR with eye-tracking (the holy grail of advertising) could result in a rush of AR apps from major brands, in addition to independent AR app developers.

Another possibility could be Apple employing the eye-tracking technology in cars in conjunction with CarPlay.

An in-car demonstration (above) of SensoMotoric's glasses at work indicate that they might be useful for cutting down on distracted driving via real time warnings (if, for example, you're looking in the wrong direction while speeding toward an obstacle) or as a visual interface for CarPlay, letting you use your eyes to enable various functions, instead of looking away from the road to view the touchscreen or using Siri for voice commands (which can be challenging in noisy situations).

Of course, these are all just guesses until Apple decides to reveal what it has planned for its eye-tracking acquisition. In the meantime, we can expect to see a series of concept designs for Apple smart glasses crop up as Apple fans hope to see the company add another piece to its wearables division.

Netflix’s ‘You Get Me’ is a tired thriller without imagination

Netflixs new thriller You Get Me beamed onto our queues asa messy and fun guilty pleasure. But instead the schlocky movie fails to deliver schlocky delights.

You Get Me stars a bevy of generically attractive 20-somethings playing high school kids who doadult things. Halston Sage, Taylor John Smith, and Bella Thorne play Alison, Tyler, and Holly, respectively. YouTube star Anna Akana and Vine-famousNash Grier round out the ensemble.

Alison and Tyler are in love in the way most teenagers are, which is to say theyre in love with the concept of being in love and not the reality. Summer is winding down and a last-hurrah party turns dramatic when Alison and Tyler have a dramatic fight. (Is there any other kind when youre in high school?) Tyler storms off and makes his way into the car and, eventually, the bed of the new girl Holly. As it turns out Holly is unhinged and dangerous.I know what you’re thinking, and yes, you’ve seen this before.

Wouldnt you know it, Alison and Tyler decide theyre going to make things work. This displeases Holly immensely, so she begins methodically integrating herself into Tylers life. She infiltrates his social circle, some of his classes, and his house. If youve seen any thrillers of this ilk, you already know how You Get Me will play out. The fact that the movie is predictable isnt necessarily bad, but the ways in which it is bad are predictable, and thats my biggest gripe. The movie would be more entertaining if Hollys antics went bigger: If youre making a B-movie, take advantage. Have Holly rack up a ridiculous body count. Have Alison and/or Tyler match Hollys mental stateand turn it into a chess game played by psychopaths. Get weird, please. If you want to slum, get dirty.

Pin most of the blame on the writer, Ben Epstein, and director, Brent Bonacorso, for the films dullness. The actors, particularly the lead trio of Thorne, Sage, and Smith, are fine in their roles, theyre just not asked to do much more than be pretty faces. The kids here live in the world of affluent movie teens, meaning theyre free to do whatever they want with almost no supervision. Save for the occasional check-in, the adults are mostly here for occasional appearances and artificial tension. But that freedom is all for naught, as the characters are hemmed in by their phones and school schedules.

As the plot twists and turns, its like driving down a winding road and heeding every warning sign. Dull turns abound! Caution, pregnancy revelation ahead! Third-act violence upcoming!

The film is so focused on the love triangle that there isnt room for a wacky sidekick or a scene-stealer to emerge. For the most part side characters are there to be pawns in Hollys game, but this isnt 12th-dimensional chess. It’s hide and seek in an empty room. That leaves a movie with zero imagination in its characterization and plotting. How much more fun would it have been if Holly were an unrepentant killer? Or if Tyler actually fell in love with Holly? Theres a point where we learn Hollys backstory through a Google search and the headlines are fodder for a much more interesting movie.

Among recent movies similar, The Boy Next Door, Obsessed, The Perfect Guy, When the Bough Breaks, or The Roommate are better examples of what You Get Me wants to do. Make no mistake, theyre all bad movies, but at least their dopiness is amusing. When all is said and done, You Get Me is something youll forget about before the end credits roll.

Texas Mom Arrested over Childrens Hot Car Deaths

A Texas mother whose two children died after she left them inside a hot car has been arrested. Cynthia Marie Randolph, 24, was arrested over the deaths last month of her daughter, 2, and son, 16 months. The Parker County Sheriffs Office said Randolph left her kids in the car in order to teach her daughter a lesson. According to a press release, Randolphs children were playing in the car and she asked them to get out of the car, but her daughter did not comply. She then closed the door to teach her daughter a lesson, thinking she could get herself and her brother out of the car when ready. Randolph then went inside, smoked marijuana and fell asleep. When she woke up and found her children still inside, she allegedly broke the car windows to make it look like an accident. Randolphs story apparently shifted from her initial series of events when police first arrived.

Tropical Storm Cindy: Video captures rescue of woman in submerged car

Quick-thinking strangers were caught on video rescuing a woman trapped in a submerged car in Alabama during Tropical Storm Cindy.

Scott Karcher and several other men waded into the water, formed a human chain and pulled the woman out of the car at a Chick-fil-A in Muscle Shoals Friday. She was not hurt.

Karchers wife shot the video.

My husband stopped and immediately jumped out to try and help the guy that was already there helping her, Kaycee Karcher told Fox 13 Tampa. Water was already up to her chest and she was scared and wouldn't move.

The video runs 37 seconds. Karcher said her cellphone battery died so she was unable to record the final moments when the woman was pulled from the car.

[I was] just scared and thankful for people to help her, Kaycee said.

The storm caused a flash flood, trapping the woman.

"There was running water, moving water, across the roadway. When she stopped at the stop sign, the current of the water pulled her vehicle into the drainage ditch," Muscle Shoals Police Capt. Tommy Skipworth told WHNT-TV.

He advised turning around if there is moving water in the roadway.

New report says Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 will have smaller battery than the S8+

Samsung's Galaxy S8 is easily the sexiest looking phone on the planet with its curved edge-to-edge screen, but the best has yet to come.

The Galaxy Note 8, the successor to last year's unfortunate explosion-prone Note 7, is expected to launch sometime in September just in time to rumble with Apple's iPhone 8. And now, thanks to a new leak, we know just about everything there is to know about it.

Notorious phone leaker Evan Blass (better known as @evleaks) has a new report for VentureBeat that spills almost all of the beans on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 8.

Blass says the phone will have a 6.3-inch curved edge-to-edge "infinity display" that's just slightly larger than the Galaxy S8+'s 6.2-inch screen.

Along with the larger screen, the Note 8 will, of course, come with an S Pen stylus (it is a Note after all) with more advanced features, and dual cameras.

The latter would be a first for any of Samsung's flagship Android phones, and would finally compete with the iPhone 7 Plus and recently released OnePlus 5's dual cameras. The Note 8's said to have dual 12-megapixel cameras (just like on iPhone 7 Plus) with optical image optical image stabilization.

The Note 8 will reportedly sport the same chip as the Galaxy S8/S8+ Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chip with 6GB of RAM (two more than the S8).

These all sound great, if not expected, but now for some features that might disappoint fans.

One thing Samsung won't reportedly be repeating: cramming in a larger capacity. The report claims Samsung's going with a 3,300 mAh battery, which would be smaller than the S8+'s 3,500 mAh battery. Last year Samsung gave the Note 7 its largest battery in a flagship ever, and well, that ended up with the phones exploding everywhere, and its eventual discontinuation.

The Note 8 might have a fingerprint sensor right next to the camera again.

The biggest flaw on the Galaxy S8 is the position of its fingerprint sensor: on the back, next to the camera. Not only is it difficult to reach, but you'll almost always end up smudging up the camera instead because they feel so similar.

If Blass is right (and he almost always is), the Note 8 won't have the fingerprint sensor embedded under the display (like rumored for the iPhone 8), but will be right next to the camera again. "Once again, Samsung has made the controversial choice of placing the fingerprint sensor on the same plane as the camera lenses to the right of the flash and heart rate sensor but at least this iteration sees them separated by a greater distance." Ugh. Samsung is likely to rely on iris scanning, facial recognition, and the touch panel on the bottom of the screen, like on the S8/S8+, for security.

Even more heartbreaking could be the price. The Galaxy Note series is Samsung's very best, with all of the best features possible, and that's always reflected with steep pricing. The Note 8 will reportedly be no different, coming in at 999 (unlocked) according Blass, which translates to roughly $1,111 at the time of this writing.

Saudi student now a US fugitive after skipping bail paid by consulate

(CNN)A Saudi student accused of killing an Oregon teenager in a traffic accident is on the run after skipping bail paid by a Saudi consulate.

Authorities in Portland said Abdulrahman Sameer Noorah, 21, escaped house arrest this month while awaiting trial for manslaughter for the hit-and-run accident that killed 15-year-old Fallon Smart last summer.

Authorities discovered Noorah had managed to remove his ankle bracelet nine days before his trial was scheduled to begin, said Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Shawn Overstreet. He told CNN the US Marshals Service is still searching for him.

"He abided with his conditions of release for nine months," said Overstreet. "It wasn't until we were getting close to resolving the case, which was supposed to be last week, that -- in my opinion -- he decided that he didn't want to go to prison for that long and took off."

Shane Smart, Fallon's uncle, expressed his anger in a Facebook post.

"From day 1, our family objected to a bail because of things known about Abdulrahman Noorah that made us believe he was a flight risk," Smart wrote. "The deputy district attorney representing the state's case against Abdulrahman Noorah expressed our objection of allowing a bail and house arrest to the presiding Judge."

Fatal hit-and-run

Fallon was crossing a busy Portland intersection on August 19, 2016, to meet up with her mother when Noorah allegedly hit her with his car, Overstreet said. The teenager did not survive the impact.

Noorah initially fled the scene but returned shortly afterward, Multnomah County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Chad Gaidos told CNN. Noorah was then arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter.

Overstreet said neither Noorah nor his defense attorney disputed that he drove the vehicle that hit Fallon or that he was driving with a suspended license. But Overstreet said Noorah's attorney claimed he was driving much slower than what law enforcement surveillance video shows. Noorah submitted a not guilty plea at his arraignment.

CNN left multiple messages for Noorah's attorney but has not heard back.

'Flight risk issues'

Noorah did not initially qualify for GPS-monitored house arrest, Gaidos said, because law enforcement believed there were "flight risk issues."

Noorah had turned his passport over to the Department of Homeland Security, Overstreet said, but authorities noted he was in the United States on a student visa. Gaidos said Noorah was attending Portland Community College on a scholarship when the hit-and-run happened. The Saudi government was supporting him with a small stipend each month, according to Overstreet.

Gaidos said the sheriff's office in Multnomah County, which includes Portland, believed Noorah did not have strong ties to Oregon and recommended he be held without bail.

Prosecutor: Saudi government bailed him out

The judge did not accept the recommendation and set bail for Noorah at $1 million instead.

That's when the Saudi consulate in Los Angeles stepped in to bail him out.

"The Saudi consulate paid $100,000 to get him out," Overstreet said. "They gave the money to the defendant, and the defendant paid the bail."

In Oregon, some defendants -- depending on the crime, their criminal history, or the judge's discretion -- can be released from jail by posting just 10% of the bail. If the defendant violates release conditions, they are responsible for the remaining amount.

The conditions of Noorah's release included being under GPS-monitored house arrest and surrendering his passport, said Christopher Larsen, the attorney for the Smart family.

CNN contacted the Saudi consulate in Los Angeles and embassy in Washington for comment several times this week but received no response.

The State Department told CNN the case "is an ongoing legal matter" and it deferred to local authorities.

Overstreet said he wants to make sure Noorah is found soon.

"That's the least we can do for the (Smart) family," he said.

Concert in Utah park honors man killed in London attack

SALT LAKE CITY –  The life of a Utah man who ran a recording studio at his home before he was killed in a high-profile London attack that also injured his wife was celebrated Saturday with the local music he loved.

Among the attendees was Keith Malda, a police officer in London who was one of the first responders to the scene at London's Westminster Bridge. He saw Melissa Cochran bloody and silent on the bridge on March 22 and helped treat her before ambulances arrived.

The two stayed in touch, and Malda said he traveled to Utah after being inspired by her focus on love over hate after the attack. "I had to come," he said.

Melissa Cochran said Malda stayed with her and told her everything was going to be OK. "I owe my life to him," she said.

Melissa Cochran, 46, said she was looking at her camera and didn't see the sport utility vehicle coming before it plowed into a crowd of pedestrians. She and her husband had been grabbing each other's hands just before the attack, kissing and saying how much fun they were having with each other.

Kurt Cochran was thrown from London's Westminster Bridge when he and his wife were struck by a sport utility vehicle that plowed into a group of pedestrians. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack that killed four people and injured scores more.

Cochran says she's sometimes angry at the attacker who killed her husband, but she doesn't hate him.

"I can't hate anyone. Kurt wouldn't want me to, and I just don't have it in my heart to do that," she said.

The concert was held in lieu of a traditional funeral for Kurt W. Cochran, 54, his brother-in-law Clint Payne said. It was an easy decision on how to honor the man who also helped with music festivals and high school productions, he said. "He's done so much for the music scene," Payne said.

Cochran's wife, Melissa, suffered a broken leg in the March 22 attack and arrived at the concert using crutches. She also suffered a broken rib and cuts and bruises.

Members of Cochran's family, including his son, are among the musicians who played at the show in a park in Bountiful, north of Salt Lake City, Payne said. The acts had worked with the Cochrans at their basement recording studio.

The West Bountiful couple was on the last day of a European trip celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary when the attack happened. The two were visiting Melissa Cochran's parents, who were serving a church mission in London.

She and her husband were described as inseparable. They ran a recording studio in their basement, and Kurt Cochran helped young bands get started by charging them only a small fee to use it.

The London attack came exactly one year after four Mormon missionaries three from Utah were seriously injured in a bombing of Brussels airport.
